Welcoming the Times of India to the CAI

Today, we are thrilled to welcome the Times of India (TOI) as a member of the Content Authenticity Initiative. This cross-industry community now includes over 4,500 major media and technology companies, creators, and educators working together to combat harmful deepfakes and ensure the authenticity of digital content.
With 187 years of journalistic legacy, the Times of India has consistently stood for independence, credibility, and public trust. Its participation in the CAI is a natural extension of this ethos. Campaigns like "The Trust of India", symbolized by the iconic "Common Man", have reinforced TOI’s role as a voice for the people. The "Times Verified" initiative, meanwhile, has built a strong foundation in fighting fake news by mobilizing both editorial rigour and community support.
“At the Times of India, our focus has always been on strengthening trust in journalism,” said Mohit Jain, Chief Operating Officer (Publishing) and Member of the Board. “Joining the Content Authenticity Initiative is part of that larger mission to build tools and systems that protect truth in the digital age. It is a commitment to our readers and to the future of credible news. The Reuters Institute and University of Oxford Digital News Report 2024 has, for the fourth year in a row, named TOI the most trusted news brand in India. We’re proud to carry that responsibility forward by joining the CAI and contributing to this global alliance.”
Santiago Lyon, Head of Advocacy and Education at the Content Authenticity Initiative, emphasized the crucial role of Indian publications like TOI in combating digital disinformation. “The Times of India’s involvement with the CAI is a landmark moment for our initiative,” he said. “In an era where the spread of disinformation threatens the integrity of journalism, TOI’s vast influence and trusted reputation will significantly bolster our efforts to create a more transparent and trustworthy digital ecosystem, ensuring that readers can confidently discern credible content.”
The Times of India joins global media companies, such as the New York Times, Associated Press, BBC, Reuters, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post as a member of the CAI.
